A téma rövid leírása, a kidolgozandó feladat részletezése:

Geodetic and geodynamic implementation and application of the Hungarian ground motion system based on satellite based synthetic aperture radar observations

One of the challenges of the Earth Observations in the next decade, to utilize and exploit the unprecedented amount of available Synthetic Aperure Radar (SAR) data, and make the derived deformation time series accessible. The potential ground segment users includes the academic community, National Geodetic and Geological Surveys, industry, infrastructure maintenance services (railway and road management, dam-monitoring), land and natural hazard management as well as urban and rural planning.
Reflecting to the challenges, several Ground Motion Services (GMS) based on different multi-temporal interferometric SAR (InSAR) techniques (PSI, SBAS, SqueeSAR) have been formed to foster the InSAR advances both public and commercial downstream users. Such GMS are present in Germany, Italy, France, Spain and Norway, as well as the implementation and production phase of the European Ground Motion Service (EU-GMS) is also imminent, which will provide annually updated continental scale deformation time series for the downstream users.
The objectives of the PhD proposal are to retrieve InSAR derived 3D geodetic velocity field. Due to the near-polar orbits of the Sentinel-1 mission, the LOS (Line-of-Sight) measurements have low sensitivity to N-S displacements , thus combining the ascending and descending interferograms is highly recommended as well as performing advanced complex pixel offset techniques (i. e. AZPO, PO-SBAS) or advanced combination techniques to resolve the N-S component.
The objectives of the PhD proposal consist two main scope, thus the realization of the PhD shall follow the high-level realization plan:
        (1) Perform full-resolution nationwide PSI/SBAS processing of the available Sentinel-1 level-1 data (2014 – recent days) all over Hungary, including designing and implementing the optimal processing chain, that can serve as a basis of further geodetic and geophysical investigations of the recent deformations. Such processing chain shall include:

    • It shall contain the latest advances and related research of the InSAR technology and data science solutions, respecting the objectives of the PhD proposal.
    • Integration of velocity fields obtained by GNSS techniques, utilizing the infrastructure and products of the MGGA and GNSSnet.hu networks.
    • To obtain absolute deformations, the candidate shall use the GNSS derived pan-European EPND Densification to georeference the relative 3D deformation field.
    • The candidate shall use the results of the pan-European EPN Densification to define the reference frame of the relative InSAR deformations.
    • The database of the nationwide InSAR analysis shall be the base of the alpha version Hungarian Ground Motion Service, such shall be consistent with the EU-GMS product levels, but shall be tailored to national needs that aims and support the national natural hazard assessment and infrastructure monitoring, respectively.

        (2) Furthermore the the R&D tasks of the PhD candidate shall also include the geodetic and geophysical interpretation of the resulting deformation field,  with respect of the representative neotectonic processes such are present in the Cartpathian Basin, namely:
    • Identifying the background deformation trends with the tools of mathematical geosciences, that represents the recent geodynamic context of Hungary, such could complement the applicability of the Hungarian Geodynamic GPS Network, and may act as the Hungarian Geodynamic Geodetic Network 2.0 (MGGA 2.0) integrating the latest advances of space geodesy.
    • R&D advances shall be introduced in at least three different natural laboratories: discussing a possible anthropogenic surface deformation case (i.e. fluidum extraction), a possible neotectonic driven phenomena such is induced by neotectonic structures as well as a case studythat investigates the effects of natural hazards and geomorphological processes on built environment (i. e. landslides, soil creep).
